About

Hello! My name is Zubaidah.

I am a professional henna artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Henna art has always been a passion of mine. As a child I would often get henna applied for weddings and special occasions and developed a love for not only henna, but the culture that came along with it. From mehndi nights and making new friends in long queues at the henna artists house to sleeping with packets on my hands to keep the henna intact.

Aftercare Instructions

Instant Henna

  • Peel the henna off 30-60 min after application, or when dry
  • Avoid water and sanitiser as much as possible in the first 12 hours after peeling off the henna
  • The henna stains instantly after touching your skin, and will last 2-7 days after being peeled off

Natural/Organic Henna

  • Ensure hands are clean, free from oils and lotion before getting the henna applied
  • After the henna has been applied, heat the hands using a heater for a darker stain (optional)
  • Lightly pat sugar water on the dry henna paste 20 min after the henna was applied, or when dry
  • Cover the hands with knee-high pantihose or fitted socks 1 hour and 30 min hour after the henna was applied, or when dry enough to press on the paste
  • Keep the henna on overnight or for 8-12 hours, it will not smudge or mess in the pantihose
  • The following morning, or 8 hours later, scrape the dry paste off using a butter knife and olive oil
  • Keep the hands warm, and apply Vicks/Karvol rub to enhance the stain (optional)
  • Avoid water and sanitiser as much as possible in the first 24 hours after removing the henna paste
  • The henna will be a bright orange on Day 1, and will develop to a medium brown/red colour on Day 2, and finally a dark brown/red on Day 3
  • The henna stain will last 2-3 weeks after the paste was removed

Body Paint

  • Allow the body paint to dry for 15-30 min after application
  • Avoid water and sanitiser on the area, as this will remove the body paint
  • The paint will last 4-7 hours on the skin, depending on how often the area is moved, bumped, touched, or washed
  • Use soap and water to remove the body paint
